Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!
 
I am looking forward to a great year with English 9 and 10 students. Please refer to this website to get to your assignments and announcements to all the great activities going on in my classroom.
 
We will be using a combination of Khan Academy assignments, along with assignments from the textbook (My Perspectives), as well as the grade level novels.
 
I will update the website each day for information relative to both English 9 and 10, so be sure to check this resource first at the beginning of class.

Assignment #1 - Email Your Teacher
 
Your first assignment is to use your Office 365 account and email your teacher. Here is a summary video from the first day of school in order to accomplish this assignment:
 
 
Assignment #2 - Create a Khan Academy Account and Join the Class
 
Your next assignment is to use your Office 365 account and join Khan Academy. Once you join, you will then register for the 2021-2022 English 9 Grammar Course.

Assignment #4 - How can you RISE and LEAD?
 
In this assignment, you are going to make a connection between Martin Luther King's speech titled "What is your Life's Blueprint?" and Lakeside High's Mission and Vision Statement of "RISE and LEAD".
 
First, watch this video resource of the full speech:
 
 
Step 1 - Record in your OneNote ideas and quotes from the speech that can be used in an introduction to an essay on the topic of RISE and LEAD.
 
Step 2 - Write an introduction introducing the speaker, the location, and the topic of the speech.
 
Step 3 - Make a connection between Lakeside's Mission Statement "RISE and LEAD".
 
Step 4 - Explain each aspect of "Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence".
 
Step 5 -Write a conclusion that answers the question how can you RISE and LEAD?

Assignment #6 - OneNote: Hiep Le
 
After watching the video on Hiep Le, we will answer the Essential Question: What does it mean to be American?

We also watched a video from Claudius Zorokong, who is an immigrant from Sierre Leone. He discussed what it means to be an American as well as how your can serve in order to make our communities better.

Assignment #7 - OneNote: Music For My Mother
 
After reading the story on Page 6 titled "Music For My Mother", students were asked to create a new OneNote page summarizing the story using the following terms: exposition, initial conflict, rising action, crisis/climax, and resolution.
