9.0 Academy/9.0 Success

Eligibility Criteria for 9th Grade Academy

 

Students who receive 3 of 4 "D" or "F" grades in core academic classes (Math, Science, Language Arts, or Social Studies) and have a far below basic or below basic score in Math and ELA in previous years standardized test score in grade eight may be required to attend the 9th Grade Academy as a condition to promote to grade ten. A diagnostic assessment in ELA and Math along with a writing assessment will assist for proper placement.

The 9th Grade Academy shall be a one year program with a specialized schedule. The focus of the program shall be accelerated remediation with high school credits being earned for up to one year. The students will earn an "A", pass, or "F" grade in the program. The students will be eligible to participate in athletics by earning no more than one "F" grade in the program. The students will also be required to become engaged/involved in a club, sport (the specific "cut" sports will require that the student meet all team requirements to make the team), or ongoing activity approved by the school administration.

 

The Success Academy

 

Students who receive 2 of 4 "D" or "F" grades in the core classes (Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies) and have a "Basic" score in Math and/or English in the grade eight standardized test score may be required to attend the Success Academy as a condition to promote to grade ten.

The Success Academy shall be one year with a specialized schedule. The focus of the program shall be accelerated remediation with high school credits being earned for up to one year. The students will be eligible to participate in athletics by earning no more than one "F" grade in the program.
