Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code - https://girlswhocode.com/
Lakeside High School has the only "Girls Who Code" chapter in Lake Elsinore.  Girls Who Code is an international nonprofit organization that has taught over 300,000 girls how to code. Members learn some coding in one of a variety of different languages (Python, HTML, JavaScript, Scratch, Swift, etc.) via semester long tutorials. We then use our coding skills to develop a collaborative project. We also have frequent access to top women professionals in the technology field and have live meetings exclusive to Girls Who Code members. We have been invited to talk with women from the technology departments of many fortune 100 companies. In our first year we received invitations to tour Blizzard Entertainment in Irvine, got sponsored for a year of free meeting snacks and free club T-shirts. We also learn about a different influential woman pioneer in computer science each week.

One of the biggest benefits to Girls Who Code members is our Summer Immersion Program for 9th-11th graders; This year it is a two week virtual job shadow at a major technology company with a woman mentor and a $300 stipend for those with need.. When in-person programs are allowed, the summer immersion can be 7-weeks of onsite training. This is a fantastic networking opportunity that few high school students will ever be able to match. This organization has an internship network for placing members from 11th grade and up into technology internships and is designed to form long term connections between women in the technology fields. Girls Who Code is a great organization. The official site will probably do a better job describing it than I can.
